Vaginal and Sexually Transmitted Infections

If you have a vaginal infection, it is better you avoid sexual intercourse until the infection has cleared up. This helps you recover faster and prevent complications. Also, note that not all vaginal infections are sexually transmitted infections (STIs). For example, yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis are not sexually transmitted infections, but trichomoniasis is, and to prevent reinfection, you want to wait until both you and your partner have completed your prescribed treatment before engaging in sex. Some STIs require that both you and your partner get treated to prevent reinfection. Of these are Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Make sure you complete your treatment regimen (even if your symptoms go away) and follow your provider’s instructions. Finally, it is important to practice safe sex by using protection and avoiding multiple sex partners. Remember, abstinence is also a good option.
